Vocational Training Services (VTS) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO #51843) that delivers nationally recognised qualifications across Western Australia. Founded in 2007, VTS specialises in Business, Management and Leadership, Hospitality and Cookery, Retail, Leadership Foundation Skills and Skill Sets training. We partner with individuals, communities, schools and businesses to provide practical, job-ready vocational education and training.

What is the difference between Certificate IV and Diploma level qualifications?

Certificate IV qualifications are designed for supervisors and team leaders with moderate complexity roles. These courses typically take 12-18 months and suit those who need to develop leadership skills while managing defined tasks and small teams.

Diploma qualifications are designed for managers and senior leaders handling complex, strategic responsibilities. Diplomas typically take 18-24 months and are suited to individuals who manage broader business operations, multiple teams and organisational objectives.

Do you offer apprenticeships and traineeships?

Yes, VTS offers training for apprentices and trainees in Business and Leadership, Hospitality, and Retail. We also provide:

  • School-Based Traineeships (SBT)

  • Aboriginal School-Based Training (ASBT)

These programs combine on-the-job training with formal qualification completion.

Are your qualifications nationally recognised?

How much do your courses cost?

Course fees vary depending on the qualification level and your eligibility for government funding:

Government Subsidised Training (Jobs & Skills WA): Eligible students pay significantly reduced fees determined annually by the WA Department of Training and Workforce Development. Many students may qualify for fee-free or heavily subsidised training.

Fee-for-Service Training: Full course fees apply for students not eligible for government subsidies. Contact VTS directly for specific pricing on individual qualifications.

Do you offer flexible training options?

Yes, VTS offers multiple training delivery modes:

  • Workplace-based training – Training conducted at your place of employment during work hours

  • Face-to-face classroom training – At our Cannington or Joondalup campuses

  • Blended/Mixed mode – Combination of classroom, self-paced study and one-on-one sessions

  • Flexible learning – Self-paced with classroom support when needed

Can you deliver training at my workplace?

Yes, VTS specialises in workplace-based training. We can design and deliver courses at your business location with flexible scheduling to suit your operational needs. Workplace training is coordinated with employer and supervisor involvement and delivered during normal working hours.

Do you offer online/remote training?

VTS primarily delivers face-to-face and workplace-based training. Some courses include self-paced learning components that can be completed independently, with periodic face-to-face or online sessions for support. Eligibility & Entry Requirements

What are the entry requirements for your courses?

Entry requirements vary by qualification:

Most Certificate III and IV courses:

  • No formal entry requirements

  • Must provide a Unique Student Identifier (USI)

  • Must provide identification

  • Complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment

SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management:

  • Must have completed Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (SIT30821) or similar

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a commercial kitchen

  • Nominated by employer/manager as suitable for the role

Foundation Skills Courses: Individual requirements assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Do I need any prerequisites?

Most VTS qualifications have no prerequisites. However:

  • You must no longer be attending school

  • You must be at least 15 years old

  • Some courses require completion of lower-level qualifications (e.g., Diploma requires Certificate IV or equivalent experience)

  • Specialist courses like Kitchen Management require industry experience

VTS assesses individual circumstances and can provide guidance on the most appropriate pathway for your situation.

Can I get recognition for prior learning (RPL)?

Yes, VTS offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). RPL recognizes skills and knowledge you’ve gained through:

  • Work experience

  • Life experience

  • Previous training (formal or informal)

RPL can reduce the time and cost of completing your qualification. Contact VTS to discuss your experience and eligibility. You’ll need to provide evidence such as:

  • Work references

  • Portfolio of work

Do you work with schools/offer school-based training?

Yes, VTS offers several school-based programs:

  • School-Based Traineeships (SBT) – Students complete a traineeship while still at school

  • Aboriginal School-Based Training (ASBT) – Specialised programs for Aboriginal students

Support & Funding

Do you accept government funding?

Yes, VTS has long-term WA State Government funding contracts and delivers training under the Jobs & Skills WA initiative. This provides subsidised training for eligible students in State priority qualifications.

What is Jobs & Skills WA?

Jobs & Skills WA is a Western Australian State Government initiative that subsidises training costs for courses that equip people for jobs in high demand. Eligible students receive significantly reduced fees for priority qualifications. VTS is an approved provider under this program.

Who is eligible for government-funded training?

To be eligible for government-subsidised training through Jobs & Skills WA, you must:

Citizenship/Residency:

  • Be an Australian citizen, Permanent Resident or hold an eligible visa including:

  • Visa sub-class 300, 309, 444, 445, 461, 785, 790, or 820

    Secondary holders of visa sub-class 188, 457, 482, 489, 491, or 494

    Bridging Visa E (sub-class 050 and 051) where you’ve applied for sub-class 785 or 790

    Ukrainian citizens with visa sub-class 449 or 786

    Afghan citizens with visa sub-class 449

    Bridging visa holders eligible to work who’ve applied for sub-class 866

Other requirements:

  • Your primary residence must be in Western Australia

  • You must no longer be attending school

  • You must be at least 15 years old

What is Priority Industry Training (PIT)?

Priority Industry Training (PIT) provides subsidised training for existing workers in priority sectors to address skill shortages. If your business operates in a priority industry, your employees may be eligible for low-cost or free training to gain new qualifications.
