SEE Student Returns to His Dream Job in the Outback

At VTS, we often see firsthand the impact that support, encouragement and opportunity can have in helping people move forward in life. This week, one of those moments came from our SEE Program.

Neilo joined the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program around six months ago. Early on, he shared with his trainer that he had previously worked on a cattle station for several years and that returning to station work was his dream.

Over time, Neilo became a valued member of the class. While often quiet and reserved, he consistently attended, put in the effort and contributed thoughtful insights during discussions. Through conversations with his trainer, he also spoke honestly about some of the personal challenges he had faced in the past and how important it had been to have support, structure and positive people around him while working towards a fresh start.

Recently, Neilo received a call from his former station manager about a new opportunity to return to station work. Together with his trainer, he updated his resume, gathered previous qualifications and prepared a strong application.

This week, he received the news that he had been successful.

What was expected to be Neilo’s final day in class before starting work next week quickly became an exciting send-off, with a phone call arriving during class asking him to begin immediately. He packed up and headed straight off to start his first day back in the outback.

Stories like Neilo’s highlight the important role foundation skills programs can play in helping people build confidence, reconnect with goals and create positive pathways forward.

We are incredibly proud of Neilo and wish him every success in this next chapter.

The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program is funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
