Strong attendance and growing confidence at Cannington

VTS’s Business program at Cannington is recording its strongest attendance numbers this year, with trainer Meenakshi supporting a motivated group of students as they work towards completing their qualifications.

Meenakshi believes the positive social environment at Cannington has played an important role in keeping students engaged. Alongside their studies, students have opportunities to connect with others on campus — including enjoying coffee prepared by Hospitality students — helping make coming to class a positive and social experience.

For students who find parts of the course challenging, Meenakshi focuses on breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps and encouraging them to progress at their own pace.

“I remind students not to compare their progress with others. Everyone works at a different pace, and sometimes seeing someone else finish more quickly can make people feel overwhelmed,” Meenakshi said.

She also encourages students to see regular attendance as being about more than completing their studies, with classroom routines providing opportunities to stay active, connect with others and support their overall wellbeing.

One student who has benefited from this approach is Jean Yves, who progressed from the Business Ready Skill Set into Certificate III in Business.

When Jean-Yves first commenced, he lacked confidence using digital devices but was keen to learn and committed to his studies. He has continued to attend regularly, participate in class and contribute positively.

Meenakshi says his confidence has grown considerably.

“He communicates more and asks more questions now. He is progressing really well and is very close to completing the course.”
