VTS Digital Workplace Program Makes Headlines: Broome Graduates Tackle Regional Workforce Shortages
We’re thrilled to share that our Digital Workplace Job Ready Program has been making waves across Western Australia, with feature coverage in the Broome Advertiser highlighting the program’s success in addressing critical workforce shortages through community-led training.
Twelve Graduates, Real Impact

In a milestone achievement for regional workforce development, twelve Broome locals recently graduated from our fee-free Digital Workplace Job Ready Program. This pre-employment pathway has been specifically designed to fast-track participants into administrative and customer service roles, directly addressing the skills gaps facing regional businesses and organisations.
The comprehensive program equipped graduates with essential workplace skills, including customer service excellence, data and records management, document production and proficiency in multiple software applications – creating truly “job-ready” candidates for diverse business support roles.
Strong Community Partnerships Drive Success
The program’s success stems from robust partnerships with local employers who provided crucial five-day work placement opportunities. Our graduates gained real-world experience with respected organisations including:
- ▪ Shire of Broome
- ▪ WA Country Health and Aged Care Services
- ▪ Magabala Books
- ▪ Broome Visitor Centre
- ▪ Kimberley Ports Authority
- ▪ Horizon Power
- ▪ Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna’s office
These placements didn’t just provide training – they created direct pathways to local employment opportunities, connecting skilled graduates with businesses actively seeking their expertise.
Government Recognition and Support

Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna attended the graduation ceremony, praising the collaborative effort: “Delivered fee-free in partnership with Vocational Training Services, Job Pathways and the Department of Training and Workforce Development WA, the Job Ready Program equips students with digital and customer service skills to connect them with future employment opportunities.”
Her presence at the ceremony underscored the program’s significance in regional workforce development and the government’s commitment to skills training initiatives.
Expanding Success Across the Kimberley
According to VTS CEO, Matt Dowd, this Broome pilot program achieved “terrific results both in terms of training and job outcomes for our clients.” Building on this success, VTS is planning to deploy similar programs elsewhere in the Kimberley throughout 2025, bringing these opportunities to more regional communities.
The Power of Partnership

This initiative exemplifies what happens when strong partnerships meet genuine community need – delivering real outcomes with real impact. The collaboration between VTS, Job Pathways and the Department of Training and Workforce Development WA demonstrates how targeted, community-focused training can address workforce shortages while creating meaningful career opportunities for local residents.
As we continue building these partnerships and expanding our reach, we’re proud to contribute to the economic growth and sustainability of regional Western Australia, one graduate at a time.
